    rear brake upgrade for 67S

    I would like to know how to increase the rear brake caliper size on my 67S. I have some SC calipers but the bolt size/spacing is wrong (offset also). I'm not afraid of welding new mounts to my trailing arm. Anyone care to offer suggestions?

    can you just shorten an sc trailing arm??

    Thanks but no. I modded my arms to retain hubs but incorporate RSR inner pivot geometry. I'm pretty well set to use existing arms.

    What have you done to the front brakes? Unless you have already upgraded those, I would leave the rears alone or the bias will be off.

    There are a limited number of upgrades available for the early cars. What I have heard of involve either a BMW caliper from an early 320 series, or adaptation of Wilwood or Girling calipers. After researching them all, I left my stock brakes alone, but I don't track the '67S much- just an occasional autox in stock class.

    Thanks fo the comments, front brakes are aluminum S calipers. I built a dual master cylinder pedal box with adjustable bias. The master cylinders are same bore now but the light weight of the front and the piston area of the S calipers has the balance bar set somewhat off center. I could change master cylinder bores to achieve a balance bar but if I could adapt the calipers I would. Best plan for me I think is to keep it simple.

    Wow! You have gone to a lot of trouble to optimize your braking balance. I take it then that you are unable to get enough rear brake bias (fronts lock first), so you are thinking more pad area and bigger pistons in the rear are the answer? The balance bar is already set at maximum to favor the rears?

    The only simple way I see other than changing out the MC is to try a more agressive pad in the rears than the front, perhaps?

    Have you considered installing an adjustable proportioning valve in the front circuit to fine tune the front braking bias? It might be but simpler than adapting/installing new rear calipers.

    thanks, I built a brake pedal box with dual master cylinders. Just looking for a bit larger rear caliper to match the larger fronts. I heard that early BMW 320 front calipers might work?

    I believe Ecurie Engineering makes an adaptor for SC Calipers
    Give them a call 262-242-3939

    about $200 I think????

    And I understand it is not a "bolt on"!!!
