    Buying a 3.2

What are the critical failure points on this engine? The one I am looking at is bone stock with 75K on it. The guy wants $4500 for it since he doesn't have a car to put it in and wants it out of his garage. I will have an inspection/bench test on it before considering it.

Critical points are valve guides and rod bolts. Many 3.2s suffered from premature valve guide wear because of soft copper guides, resulting in excessive oil consumption. Also the crank was redesigned from the fairly bulletproof 3.0 bottom end, and smaller rod bolts (9mm instead of 10mm) were used. This can lead to failures if the engine is subjected to prolonged running at (or over) redline, as in racing (or with an altered ECU program).

Check the valve guides and replace with phosphorus bronze if necessary, put in some Raceware or ARP rod bolts, and you will have a great engine. Of course, while you're in there....
