A Halda Speedpilot was a mechanical instrument for Time-Speed-Distance rallying. It helped a driver maintain an average speed.
Halda made, typewriters, watches, and taxi meters and branched out into rally instruments: odometers and the Speedpilot computer. They still make watches.
The basics of operation were that you'd set the required speed on the left dial and the internal gears would drive a hand on the right "clock" side so that if the driver kept a different hand on the "clock" which was driven by the odometer even with the first hand the car wold be at the correct average speed.
