    Rare Early Options

What are some rare options you might find on an early T,E,or S?

    Rear Wiper?
    Electric Windows?
    A/C?
    Some sort of revised heater?
    Certain Driving or Fog lamps?

    Thanks,

    Josh

The VDO external thermometer was a very rare option on the early cars. It would fit in front of the shift lever in a specially made tin enclosure covered in vinyl. I have seen one on Ebay, and one in a '71S. The thermometer is still available by VDO, but not in chrome ring version.

The dictating Blaupunkt that was an option on Toms' (Sithot) car would have to be rather rare.

I've always considered the glass to be half full...that is until I reached middle age and realized that it is actually half empty.

I had that on a '77 911 Targa. I thought it was somewhat rare. I had no idea that it existed before the mid year cars came out.

    Hi chuck,

...Speaking of original radios ... Have you run across any radio repairmen that stand out as the best for older German radios?

    thanks.

    Faktory Stereo . . .

Not as sexy as roll bars, Ti con rods, or all the race/rally stuff, maybe --- but still . . .

. . . given Porsche's current rep/penchant for über-equipment, it's interesting to see just when something as common-place (today) as stereo, first showed up any 911

    An interesting + evolving discussion --- including pics + parts lists + possible option code . . . going on, here . . .

After-market automobile stereo equipment was already available by the late '60s --- Steve McQueen specially outfitted his '69 w/ a custom set-up (that he was reported to be quite fond of) . . . but the timing + install details of a genuine Faktory option are not clear
