Dave, my early '72T is said to have come with M470. It had the velour carpet (or the remains thereof), aluminum sill covers, and the S rocker covers, as well as leather wrapped steering wheel. Obviously the model name was black, not gold. The instruments, moldings and rubber inserts were also present. The car also had full tinted glass, but that was not separately as M568.

Only available one year in longhood era and for white versions of one limited model. Although they've been aped many times giving impression of common off top of head just over 200 cars got a set of blue. Less were green and red. For those who like details the wheels and blue decals were not ordered on the base 911744 for homologation weighing they were a conversion order item fitted after homologation weighing according to my production order.

Although parts maybe more than option, also so the 806.10 RS wheel old stock -- more specifically dated Feb March of 70 used for around 300-400 earliest examples of RS probably cut off around end of calendar 72 so a little over 300 with the no and 70 date ; certainly before end Jan / 451 example I hear.

Plastic horn push for the above used it on one model one year only until 6 Feb and most of those broken by all accounts so survivors are hens teeth

Besides having a few sets of those 6 and 7” wheels, I’m paranoid as my lightweight plastic horn push you mention is unbroken. As is my lightweight windshield. More to worry about!

However it appears that from 1972 the M470 the Appearance group option pertains to both 911T & 911E, but we have no description of what is included. I need to resolve this issue.
On a 1972 911T it is reported that Velour carpet, aluminum door sills, chrome rocker panels and model name in Gold are not present, but 911S instruments, 911S rubber mouldings and rubber inserts on bumper horns are present; tinted glass is not part of the group.

Dave, indeed the 2.4l T models 1972/1973 had different spec than 2.2T.
For example, the 1972 911E had front spoiler standard as 911S, but for 1973 the 911E had to order it as an option.

    1. Everybody had way too much beer at the factory one day.
    2. More likely: at some point the car needed new PORSCHE letters and the only ones available were gold. At this moment, Stoddard has both gold and silver letters but Sierra Madre Collection shows silver letters out of stock.

I do know that the silver "joined" PORSCHE script used in '65 and '66 has long been unavailable while gold's available (but hard-to-find: I had to guess the part number which is 901.559.301.20). However, for a long time, the gold angled 911 script was unavailable while the silver "angled" 912 script has been available.

Today, just the gold "angled" 911 script with 46mm pin spacing is available. That doesn't fit my car but--luckily--I have one.

I dont beleive No.1 is correct, it never will.

However No.2 is correct. For a long time early 911 were just „old“ cars and repro parts were not available easy.
Some were supplied by companys like Stoddard or, later Sierra Madra.

From what I saw, most US market 911T did order the „Apperance package“ when new and so came with gold script „911T“ and „Porsche“.
Repro manufactors produced gold „911T“, since demand (for repair, restoration etc) for silver „911T“ and „Porsche“ was low, they were hardly available and usually when restoring a car, owners opted for gold ones, instead.

I stand to the point that any 2.0/2.2 911T came standard equipped with a silver „911T“ and „Porsche“ decal only (as mine) while 911S and 911E had the gold ones.
If a 2.0/2.2 911T wanted those, he had to order it as an option, as accessories literature indicates.

Lets not put out a myth that an owner of a new car either had its „911T“ decal in silver or gold, depending on the mood, alcool level of workers or hasards at the factory bins, thats imho a BS:
2.2/2.2 911T decal on engine lid : Standard in silver, optional in gold.
