Thread: What's your favorite Wheel?

  1. #11
It's been about 12 years since I owned that 67' Coupe with original Prototipo but I do seem to remember that all 3 spokes had the covering on them. I also remember that the leather had less grain in it and felt thinner. The stitching was thinner as well. I also don't recall Prototipo being written on it but Momo was in the place that Prototipo is I think.

I've always considered the glass to be half full...that is until I reached middle age and realized that it is actually half empty.

I sure do!!! Hey, I've got an idea, I'll buy your Nardi for $45 and give you a 200% profit!!!!

If any of them was $15, the choice would be a lot easier. Here is to the non-conformist in us all. If we liked the norm, we would all be driving Chevvies!!!

I'm not sure this would fit with a black interior but I love it with the tan.

    Easy there Larry,

Check the second car in my signature...

During the time it's been taking to rebuild the S there seems to be an increase of black tire streaks on the streets of Reseda...

    Larry,

Is evans auto selling you the new (Mono NOS Prototipo) wheel? If so how much are they asking? Does it come with everything needed to install into my 72S? I really like the white stiching and the box is an extra bonus!

    Thanks,
    Charlie

Chuck: Please accept my apologies. No insult intended. But you have to admit that your 67 Malibu "ain't no ordinary chevy."

Charlie: Yes, this is the unit that they are selling, for $239.50 plus shipping. I thought it was a pretty nice wheel, but it comes without a horn button, so you are on your own there. Give me your email, and I will send you the contact for the guy I was talking to about it.

9eek: Love those wooden wheels. I am just concerned that with an all black interior, that the wooden wheel wouldn't look as "period correct" in my 73. But thanks for your pic.

Thanks for all of your input. Looks like it is a battle between the Prototipo for $250 and the RaceMark for $150. Chuck, since you have both, is the Prototipo worth the extra $100? Gotta noodle that one.

Does the $250 include the hub adapter? Because you can still get the wheel itself at Pelican for $199, which would split the difference, at least.

Actually Larry, the Prototipo is the one of three I don't have…
    Can't really comment first hand…

As far as looks, I think I agree that the old prototipos looked a little different… kind-a cooler... However, no doubt, if you used a 'new' prototipo for about 20 years it would probably get there.

As said before, I love the black leather Nardi… it looks right and feels right…

My new/old RaceMark is a little fatter and more 'business' looking

… where the Nardi has the semi/racey/touring/Italian groove goin...

    Larry,

Take the Prototipo with the Silver spokes. They are impossible to find. The black spoked ones are available on Pelican, and also at Rayburn&Williams (www.rwparts.com). Both are ~$200. I've seen some on eBay where idiots are bidding them up to $280! If they actually shopped around they'd save money. You'll also need the Porsche Hub adapter. $69 (I think on Pelican) and $49 at R&W. The R&W guys are really friendly on the phone and they'll price match. R&W also has the Porsche crest horn buttons for $50 (also hard to find).

The Protipo's are the way to go if you want both period correctness, but with a bit of RGruppe attitude. Nardi's are nice, but belong in early SWB cars with wood trim dashes or 356's.

IMHO, the newer Momo's belong in blown rice rockets with giant carbon fiber wings!

    Chris:
Thanks for the advice. The decision is made. I will get the Prototipo. I think that it looks really cool too. And your RGruppe attitude comment put me over the top. BTW, my wrench is including the hub and horn button in my price, so I think that I am really good to go.

Someday, I hope to have an RGruppe Pcar that I will use as a daily driver. One classic, one hotrod. Nice combo.

I have a picture of a VG Targa next to my desk, in anticipation, like a long lost girlfriend.

I will never make it till March
