Thread: What's your favorite Wheel?

  1. #21
    Larry,

I started in Feb and mine is still not done. I feel your pain. The guys on this board will get you through. At least you don't have to wait through a California spring, summer, fall + PCA AX season + RGruppe NoSo+ a few other events you would have liked to drive your car to.

    Hi Guys!!!

What about this wheel? This looks a lot like the Prototipo and I like the suede coz I got sweaty palms...

And the yellow orientation tape has quite that racer look to it!

    Protopio install

I need installation tips? I just purchased a Protopio from R&W. He's got them for the right price along with the Porsche crest horn buttons. Now all I need now are a few helpful tips in replacing my stock 72S wheel with my new in the box Protopio. Does the old horn button pull out easily with my fingers? How about installing the adapter? Any other little tips would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Charlie

Aww... I thought I could save a few bucks... That wheel is $139 whereas the Prototipo is $200?

Did the Protos come in suede?

    Thanks.

Charlie, to remove your original 72S wheel, firstly position the wheel so that the road wheels are pointing straight ahead.

Place the thumb of your right hand under the bottom right corner of the 'butterfly' hornpad & the first finger of your left hand above the top left corner. Push up with your right thumb & down with your left finger so that the hornpad swivels clockwise. When it has rotated thro' 45 degrees, lift the hornpad away from the steering wheel (towards you). You will then see the central retaining nut & spring washer. Remove the nut (24mm socket from memory) & washer &, gripping the s/wheel rim, pull the wheel off the splines.

To fit the Momo (or any other wheel), slide the hub onto the splines making sure that any markings stamped onto the hub (usually the word 'top') are positioned correctly. Place the original spring washer & nut over the end of the steering shaft & tighten the nut to the specified torque. Place the horn button retaining ring (bright zinc plated) between the hub & steering wheel & fit the 6 allen-head csk screws. Connect the horn wire to the back of the horn button & press the horn button into the centre of the steering wheel.

    Voila !

    Sprint,

That's the wheel I would have gone with had they not put the Proto back in production. As matter of fact. That's where they wrote Momo on the original Prototipo.

    Silver911,

That's the wheel that was in my 71' S when I bought it. A "Le Carra" or something like that. Not such a bad wheel. More drivable than the standard issue in my opinion.

I've always considered the glass to be half full...that is until I reached middle age and realized that it is actually half empty.
