Thread: Gas Mileage?

  1. #1

    Question Gas Mileage?

Can anyone tell me what kind of gas mileage I should expect from my supposedly properly tuned mechanically fuel injected '69S (2 ltr.) Coupe?

    Thanks

    My '69 911E (stock 2.0 w/MFI) gets between 12 and 15 MPG in mixed city/highway driving in L.A.

    Mileage

    Hi Sandy, Hi Kurt

    Thanks for the replies.

Well, those are radically different answers. I'm emailing from Toronto where everything is in kilometers and liters. I'm getting about 15.5 liters/100 kilometers. With the help of another '69 911S owner from the U.S. and our combined bad math skills I think I'm getting about 16 miles/gallon. I finally thought to check my owner's manual and it suggests 23.1 mpg. I'm assuming that's going to be optimistic.

Kurt, all I can say is who's your mechanic and can he tune my engine?

Anyone else out there with an opinion?

Went on a local PCA drive today. Filled the tank before I left, filled it back up before I returned.

    98.4 miles, burned 5.8 gallons. That's a shade under 17mpg.

My 2.4 has Webers and the drive was 70% HARD driving. I was hangin with the lead pack of 996es and Turbos - lot's of revs.

I believe we did the early S world proud - as several took notice of the old school classic hangin with the big boys.

BTW, I hit a Grand Canyon of a pothole REAL HARD - thought for sure I'd bent a rim or messed up the alignment. Not a scratch though, these old cars are tough! Something to be said for 70 series tires!

13-15 if you're lucky (and drive it!). These cars were never known for fuel economy; especially the MFI "S" models.

    I'm with you Tom...

In 14 years... no better than 20mpg (that was a whole tank at the speed limit in 5th)

13-16 around town ... 16-17 on the highway (if I'm luckly)

    And......... 9 on the track!!!!

My '69 w/2.7, Webers and E cams gets about 20 mpg on the road, but that's with the typical Porsche speedo that reads a little optimistic.

Right on the money. Gas hogs to be sure. I think I've got an old Car and Driver reprint around here somewhere............hmmmm, yep, here it is: 14-17 mpg (1972 911-S), 15-18 on the "E" and 16-20 on the "T" .

And so it goes: "your mileage may vary".
