Guess it all depends on all the extras for new parts verses reusing the old ones. Let us know what you discover in your research. Good luck.
    Hi,

I have always been told to figure about 30 hours of labor plus parts for a top end and 40 hours for a full rebuild.

I am one of those guys at Rennlist that saw the wild "facts" and guess I must have been gouged my my trusted wrench.

I just had my heads redone. The work included replacing all 12 valves, installing carrerra tensioners and a new clutch. We did not re-ring or pull the jugs. The cost was just north of $5,000. Of that, about $2,500 was parts and machine work. I checked my parts cost on Pelican Parts and my estimte was about the same as my garage ended charging me.

I hope this helps a bit.

Harry: Did you have a local shop do your rebuild? If so, can you tell me who did it and whether you were happy with the work (price notwithstanding)? I will need to get my '73S rebuilt sooner or later, and haven't figured out who I would use in Portland.

I used Mike at Stuggart. I am a long time customer of his and he did a great job and the price was as expected.
