67 S, What are the correct standard seats?

The COA for my 67S doesn't state any seat option, but currently the seats are equipped with head rests that are mounted on two small notched posts that extend down into the top of the seat back. The seat back hinge parts are painted, not chromed. I just have'nt been able to find a picture of a head rest equipped 67S. I have seen pictures of 65 and 66 head rests which are round in cross section and are mounted by curved chromed brackets which are then mounted to the back of the seat back. Is this correct for 67 also? Thanks Wolfgang

Hi Wolfgang - according to Brett Johnson's book the same standard seats were fitted from early 1965 to the end of 1967.

Headrests, which were the same as those fitted to 356's, were optional.

I think that the reclining mechanism on the sides of the seats should be chrome (not black) & this, together with your description of the headrests, seems to suggest that you have later ('72/'73 ?)seats fitted.

I'm sure that Eric Linden (early seat guru) or another '67S owner will chime in with more accurate info.

I'd say that if the headrests are attached to the back of the seats like the 356 that they are probably correct. The black paint is another issue for somebody else. I'd venture a guess that it was an "update" by a previous owner, especially if the chrome was in poor shape.

Sorry, I'm asleep at the switch. He surely has later seats.
I do happen to know where a nice pair of early "S" seats without headrests are sitting even as we speak.
He'll have to do the negotiating but they are pristine from my recollection. They are black and I could probably wrangle a price for them this weekend if interested.

Your seats sound like they are the later 72 , or 73 seats.

Headrests were an option in 1967, and they were indeed the round 356 style that fixed to the back of the seat with a chrome bracket (as mentioned above).

The hinge brackets for the seats should be chrome. The stock seats in my 67S were black vinyl with basket weave inserts. There was no difference in the seats from 65 to 67 that I've been able to find (structure wise), and no difference between 911 or 912.

Erik is right. The blaack crackle seat recliner hinges were only used in 72-73.
1967 was the last year in which Porsch offered headrests as an option which mounted by using brackets and screws on the back of the seat. They are quite rare. I just had a set of 67 seats redone which have the headrests and hardware in perfect condition. I tried attaching a pic, but the file size is greater than 100k and the registry's server wouldn't accept it.

Wolf, it sounds like you have a 68 seat. Here is a picture of a 68 seat that I bought recently to renovate. The side reclining brackets are chrome and the seat has a pair of holes for headrests. The headrest pictured is not original, I think it is from a mid eighties VW Golf/Rabbit!

I took the stock seats (non-headrest) out of my '67S today in favor of non-original sport seats, so I shot some pics with the digital camera. I am interested in what the price might be on the seats you know about, Tom.

Kind of a mismatched pair, but they feel really good and the price was right.

Thanks fellas for the information, the seats I have are definitely not the originals according to this. I'll keep what I have for the mean time because I like the idea of the head rests for safety reasons. Wolfgang
