Something's fishy here...with 1750 '72 S coupes produced, it doesn't jive that #1220 would have been made in 1971. My car is #1556, made in July of '72. Anybody else here with a '72 VIN prior to #1220 know the build date of their car?

Yea, it's a kick in the groin to the 996/993 guys that some of these "old" cars go up in value instead of down!

    Paul,

Good point. I think a more likely explaination is a mistake in the description of the car. The auction company should have written 1972 instead of 1971. Look at this line from the listing.
"nombre de voitures construites : 1750 exemplaires en 1971, 1430 exemplaires en 1973"

That doesn't make sense. It should say 1750 examples in 1972.

    Brian, Paul, et al...

I've spent a fair amount of time in Europe on business and spent some of that time (don't tell my boss) out looking at old P cars. I've been told a few times, that they list cars over their according to the year the model (in this case Model E I think?) began production. You'll typically find a lot of cars listed as the year earlier than they are (though its not 100% consistent).

Example: www.mechanicimport.com a popular dealer in Belgium. They have a factory RSR for sale, listed as a 1972.

For $55G's, i sure hope I'm right on this one

    Chris,

Thanks for the explaination. That makes the most sense in using 1971 for the E program 911s.

The link doesn't work to the view the RSR for sale. Is the site down for all of us wanting to check it out or is it the wrong address for that dealer. Thanks again.
