1971 911S Tub ready to paint

I have stumbled across a 1971 911S tub that is absolutely in immaculate condition. The current owner has the tub in expoxy primer and has all the fenders doors and hood etc mounted and in place. The whole thing is very straight and needs another coat of primer final sand and then paint. He has most all the parts to put back together alas no engine. He wants 3500.00 for all of it. I figured the tub with all the work and prep has to be worth that alone. So I know I'll end up spending another 15,000 at least before I am done. (not including paint) So the age old question is it worth it (the tub and all)

Also assuming I could chase down another 2.2 with MFI, do the engine numbers have to be an exact match or is there a range of numbers that could be used without affecting the value adversely.

    Thanks
    David

    No. I don't think so.

Or, by tub, do you mean the entire car w/o an engine? Then, maybe.

Are we talking about a tub (just the shell) or a roller (which is the entire car, less the motor and trans)?

If it's a roller, then I think $3,500 is a good price. It's exactly what I paid earlier this year for a rust-free 72T roller. (As you can see, all it was missing was the rear bumperettes and a front turn signal lens.) Your S serial number makes yours more valuable.

Now, will you be able to recoup your costs if you restore it? That's another story altogether.

David, do you know if the car is still available?
