    Air pump?

I have read that in 68 porsche had to compensate for emissions restrictions by adding an air pump. First of all is this true? Second can it be removed to gain hp.

It's VERY true...and many owners of the time did remove them. Whether or not that resulted in a power gain I haven't a clue. Also, at the time, it was said that the air pumps were purchased from GM, that they were Corvair air pumps...but I'm not sure if that is accurate or not. For a time, when smog testing first came into being, there was a mad scramble in Oregon to find replacement pumps in order to get the cars "road legal" again.

You might want to save it as the only living pre-thermal reactor car without and air pump and certainly the only SWB car I've ever heard of having one.
It was a lame idea when it was new but the Corvette guys love to have them on their cars for show. Put it in a box marked "911 Air Pump" and stash it. Might be worth something one day.
