Winter/Snow driving for an early 911

    Greetings,

It is only mid December and cabin fever is starting to set in. I am thinking of preparing my 72 T for a Winter 911 ( No one want's to buy it anyway!) as I won't use my nicer cars with the roads now sanded ect. It would be great to enjoy a 911 all year round. Has anyone prepared and used their 911 for winter driving? I am curious of tires ride height ect. and to make it fun I am looking for any period accessories like a ski rack mud flaps ect. Any 911 snow pictures?

If I only could move to southern California.... Thanks guys.

    Best,

    Don

Waaaaaaay back when I lived in a snowy land..911s (post 74 I must add) were used daily on the snow covered roads.

Other than using full winter tyres (Michelin I seem to recall) on steel rims, say 5inchers nothing was needed. Standard ride height was OK, except for when you tried to park in the fields as opposed to the car parks

Mind this was on ordinary winter roads, used extensively so there wasn't deep snow on them, just very hard compacted stuff and twin ruts in the snow.

    Great fun in a 911...

    911 in Snow

I was one of those people who drove early 911's in the snow 25 years ago. They are the best rear wheel drive cars in the snow I have ever driven, even without snow tires. Even in deep snow, with the flat bottom, you can glide/slide right over it. Problem was always decent heat over the windshield.

Don, haven't done it myself but I like your thinking! Here's a few photos I took back in 82 at an SCCA Pro Rally that might be some incentive:
