Thread: MFI injector testor/cleaner

    MFI injector testor/cleaner

Anybody know anything about this device? Obviously it's for testing/cleaning the injector, I'm just not sure of the details.
For starters, what's the best cleaner/solvent to be used?
I suppose you could use Techron but other things might work better. Seems like you should be able to test the spray pattern with it. There is a black knob on the back side which seems to control the pressure. I assume a certain pressure should be
produced and then held for a given amount of time.
Just wondering if anyone has used one of these.
    Thanks
    Bruce

    Bruce,
With regular system fuel pressure applied, that would make an interesting flame thrower. Be careful of open flames when using this. The atomized fuel thus created makes for a nice combustible mixture and mushroom cloud.

Techron or equivalent might be a good choice - easy to get without a permit. Maybe add something to catch the solvent and recycle it back to the reservoir? I see there's a filter element in there.

Want some to clean/test? I've got six and I've got USD.

I used to use be a member of the Saab owners club and we had one of those cleaners for the CIS injectors, it was made by Bosch. We used varsol to clean and test the injectors.

Rudy, varsol was the chemical I was trying to think of. Don't know where to find it. Sherwoods comments on flames are
appropriate. I think for now I'm going to use Techron as it seems
pretty safe and should do some good. Sherwood, send up any injectors and I'll run them through. This weekend I'm going to pull the ones out of my 73 and run them though as well.
Email me for a shipping address if you want.

Just thinking, are the CIS injectors the same thread pattern?
Might work for both if so...

You should be able to get varsol from any paint store Bruce. I bet Wally will have it in their paint department. The varsol will disolve any varnish that might have built up in the injector. I remember that some of the injectors that we cleaned, tested had a much finer spray pattern after being cleaned with the varsol. Why not first clean with varsol and then run the techron through it? The varsol will certainly be cheaper than Techron.

Never heard of Varsol, but kerosene works nice as well. That tool has been one of the saving graces of my MFI experiences. Just keep an eye on the pressure gauge ... make sure you don't spring it.

What about Berrymans for a cleaning solvent?

You want to start a side business? I'll send mine.
