    Restoration of 1972 2.4 S Targa c/n 9112310827

    Greetings Early 911S Registry,

I am a new member of the Registry and I am starting a restoration on 9112310827, a US-delivery 2.4 S Targa. The car come from 21 years of ownership and home maintenance. It was repainted once about 15 years ago. It has some mild corrosion and is going to have a complete restoration, with the goal of correcting the details and preparing the car for events. The car has a Weber 40 IDA conversion, which was performed prior to the last owner's tenure. I may keep the Webers in place vs convert back to MFI.

I have experience with 3,2 915 and G50 impact bumper cars, 964, and 993, but this is my first early 911. I am excited about this project and I am grateful in advance to help from this forum.

I will post questions, pictures, and progress of the work in this thread. I love a worthwhile project!

    All the best,
    David

Thank you! Here is the car. I’ll start with a few easy questions:

    (1) Should the front horn grill trim be black or chrome?
    (2) What is the correct steering wheel?
    (3) Is there a Blaupunkt Frankfurt radio specific for 1972?
    (4) Did US cars have these rear lenses?

    All the best,

With regards to the radio, Mike Fitton on the board, should know. Yes that style but with chrome surround if your car is a '72.

" If it were my 911"... I would be more concerned about those mirrors..and the headlight rings, while I would be at it. (Sorry for my Dutch Directness here)
But other than that, it's a very nice one.

    David,

Pretty car. 72 is a fantastic year. Are you in S. Florida? Not to many "early" folks down here.

Thank you - directness is appreciated. I agree that the mirrors and the headlights are low-hanging fruit and will be corrected. The mirror was driver's-side only and this style, yes? https://www.autohausaz.com/pn/143340...kaAg1ZEALw_wcB. I am already in touch with John Audette and need to decide whether I will go with US-delivery sugar scoops (unlikely), H1's, or early H4's. I am happy to hear your opinion on the best choice.
