    1973 Vin Number Help!

Hey, I'm looking into buying a 73 911S and I found one, and got the engine and chassis numbers. I want to know if they match. How do I figure that out. are there any links to websites that can give me that date? I have found links that show the vin numbers, but how about the engine numbers? When buying a car out of your own state, can you guys give me some pointers in buying a 911? Thanks.

Another possibility is join the Early S Registry (shameless plug) and you will receive a list of early cars and engine #s and compare them to the ones on the car you are looking at. That is how I knew our '71 was #s matching. Another member had the consecutive VIN # to ours and the engine # was two #s different then ours.

Tom is correct the best way is to obtain a Certificate of Authenticity from PCNA.

    Vince,

You may know this, but the VIN should have a <33> in it if it's a 73S.
    First 3 is for the model year (73) and 2nd is the S designation. 2 for an E - and a 1 for a T.

    Like this:

    91133XXXXX
    The number after the 2nd 3 will be a <0> for a coupe and a <1> for a targa.

If you PM me the engine number, I can at least tell you if it's correct for the model year. Good advice from Brian on comparing the sequence to the Registry list.

Is the Certificate of Authenticity from PCNA the same as a Kardex? If so, PCNA seems over priced. $110 from PCNA compared to a Kardex for $70 that I found online from a Porsche Dealer in Florida, the form was on their website.

    http://suncoastporsche.com/kardex/

Is there a difference? If so, what is it?

I've got 9112300333 with a 911/53 engine but I'd like to confirm the engine serial number as original, as well.
