    exterior oil lines

I was wondering if anyone knows if the exterior hard oil lines that go from the front oil cooler to the oil filter assembly are still available from the Porsche factory. I have a 1972 911S that (like many others) has a bashed in and squashed oil line. If anyone out there just happens to have a good used one I would be grateful as well

I beleive they are still available, but a call to your local dealer will get the answer for sure. If the damage is small you could cut out the damaged part and braze in a new length.

I think Nick has the right idea – I’d hate to think how much these cost new!

FYI. I spent some time with a tubing bender, a map gas torch, and copper pipe fitting up the late model setup onto my 72T.

Last time I checked '72S oil lines were over $1200 new. I have a used spare that I might consider selling if you need it.

I read in a Pelican post that squished areas can be removed by heating the oil line with a propane torch and compressing in a vise. It sounds like it is surpsingly efective. I'd do a search there before shelling out big dollars for new lines, or cutting into you old ones. I have a set in the same condition, and I'm planning on trying this trick.

Seems like the entire line could be fabricated for a lot less than the 1200.00 new. What are these lines made of. Thin gauge steel etc. and then the ends would have to be made as well. Can anyone give me some idea as to the specifications ?

I believe they are brass...could be wrong tho.

Luckily you already have the thermostat assembly. I have a T (no factory cooler) and I’m struggling with how I’m going to install an external oil cooler on my car. It's been explained to me how it could be done, but I haven’t got around to collecting all of the parts yet. The lines are the easy part.

Call Chuck Moreland at Elephant Racing. I don’t remember the details, but the last time I called him, I hung up the phone under the impression he had the finned lines that could be fit to a '72.

    Oil Line Repair

This is how I repaired my crushed oil line, it may work for you.
I found that a 3/4 inch copper pipe fits snuggly over the stock oil lines, so I cut out the crushed section and slipped a section of copper pipe. I then soldered the ends. To be safe, I went to a radiator shop and had the lines pressure tested. It tested fine, so as an added precaution I sealed the ends with JB Weld.
I've put 3,000 miles on the car so far with no leaks.
    Hope this helps.
