Thorsten, I think we're in the same profession. We have all the best 3D/2D digital tools at our disposal, they are absolutely amazing but I'll NEVER let go of by pencils. Nothing like that direct connection for free flowing ideas: mind to arm to pencil to paper. No processors "enhancing" the flow.

Much like the cars we love to talk about. As amazing as the 996/Carrera GT/Twin Turbo whatever is, nothing like the simple , direct, raw emotional connection of the early rides!

Is this may be a reason...

...for this forum as a car designer
    hang out???
Well...there seems to be some affection for those early cars within our business.
Alone in SoCal RGruppe (while I worked in CA) I met five or six car design people - that are early Porsche addicted...
That can't be just a funny coincidence, right??
Good thing is, you are not even getting blamed for driving a not corporate conform 'Porsche' at work...would be different if I would show up with a 996 and not an SL 500... ; ))))
Everything for its purpose, but pure driving fun is my 73!!!
Pure & emotional & fun things last longer...
Lightpens and electronic stability controls break!!!

Not just car designers love early 911s.

Designers love 911s period. There are at least 5 911 owners here, from a 72 to a 2004 car.

    OK the 2004 isn't really a 911.

We are all to some extent petrol heads, or is it just that really good cars also happen to be really good designs which we can appreciate and value.

In the office one of the most talked about projects we have done recently is the HQ for TAG McLaren. It gets the thumbs up for being a great building for a fasinating client with the added bonus that the product is fanastic as well. If onyl all oue projects were as challenging as this.

We too suffer from pencil deficiency syndrome and excessive computer dependence. These however are becoming terminal in this part of the design world as there is simply no time left to use ones hands on the job (!)....

I'll leave it at that I think.....
