E-bay is a two way street.

I have used it successfully a 'few' times but only for little things.

I've had the 'sold elsewhere' a couple of times, but in fairnesss to the seller it was always stated clearly to begin with...so my approach is to say fair enough.

As an aside we had to buy another car this w/e...there were two possibles at the dealers and three clients. The first guys there was too slow to decide and left empty handed....We only got the car because my other half was quick to state her preference.

It was tough knowing somebody was going to get hacked off, but at the end of the day the dealer summed it up 'The first people who put money on the table get the cars'.

    I totally agree

at a dealership it's first come, first serve and deservably so. The auction market is entirely different. Would that kind of thing happen at Monterey? Certainly not if the reserve is met which was this case.

Shawn, tell me your limit and I'll tell you mine (I thought you only liked silver) At least you got a Pcar. I feel so desperate!

Michael...if you see one you wish to buy that has a phone number listed? Call the seller! "You snooze, you lose"...Good condition early 911 cars are in high demand...and in case you didn't know it, they don't make 'em like that these days.

Oh, I fully realize the uniqueness of this automobile that all who habit this place share. Ergo my obsession. I've passed up and lost out on several cars over the past year looking for the right one. I try to balance my time looking so I don't end up divorced.

The seller and I communicated a couple of times and I was bidding. "ur_911", the arch nemisis of "early911buyer".

My only point was the ethic of using a reserve auction as an advertisement. If it is listed as the right to end early then I act accordingly (this was not). If he had interested european buyers he should have let them bid and let the dollars fly. That's the underlying excitement of the auction environment!

    the whole ebay debacle

I can sympathize for the serious bidder who was planning a last minute attack to win the bid. I know I have anxiously acessed how high and can bid only to find my item pulled the day before ending date.

but it is the seller who pays the ebay fees. and those fees can add up quickly and we mostly see it as a cheap way to advertise to a world market.

when I put a car on ebay I am planning for a quick sale and it's a serious monkey wrench in the works if I get a dead beat bidder. often bidders just disappear and I still have to wait until a reasonable time passes before I can relist, request my fees back from ebay and then go though the whole process again, the endless emails and phone calls from Libya! yes, there I am at linda's seabreaze cafe eating a cinamon muffin and a guy from libya calls my cell.

if I am serious a about an ebay car. I always at least speak to the owner and I always try to make a cash now offer. that wasy I know if he's gonna accept from somone elese or not. bought a car on ebay sunday. the seller refused my personal offer. I was high bidder anyway.

next month I will be offering a 66 912 to ebay. and for you santa cruz locals. I'll also have the 2.2 out of my 70t to sell soon.
