Thread: '73 S Resto Update:

  1. #11
Ed & Rick - thanks. Yeah, Silver on a '73 (black trim) I think rocks. Although, those black bumprettes are pretty darn ugly, even on the back (not putting them on the front). Thinking I might find an earlier chrome set once I get it home. Might by another excuse to go visit EASY.

    Chris,

Looks fantastic....silver is the business...no bias here at all!

i hope you do find some chrome rear bumperettes, those rubber ones really do the car no favors....I know they're OE but still.

Can't wait to see some outdoor shots once its done.

Glad to hear the little one is keen. Keep the faith.

Gee Chris... nice to see a silver '73 again. Haven't seen mine in weeks! It's currently light blue (the color of the cover). I think your son is dancing from the anticipation of his 16th birthday - license to DRIVE dad's car!

Looking good! I Like the silver badging and serious looking rotors (thanks for not painting calipers red).

Solid dash and door speakers don't bother me as long as speaker covers are period correct. Problem is, your Blau Frankie ain't stereo... right? Don't worry, just send it to me and I'll get you a really nice stereo radio.

Looks like it's sitting pretty high on it's wheels (unless I'm not seeing jackstands) will they adjust ride height? I'm sure you know the trunk inner should be silver, and the gas tank gray. Replace that sure to leak Interstate battery with a sealed Odyssey when the time comes.

Don't like to hear of in-shop paint scratches, sheesh - do they have NO respect for such a fine ride!?!

Oh, love the pic of the beach bum hotwiring the ignition!

    Chris,

I remember a thread awhile back on different hood badges. I thought it was you who posted. If I'm right did you go with the silver to match the engine lid?

Would love to see a picture of it if you did!

I'm thinking of going up to the city this weekend. Does your shop let people browse? I'm in the recruiting mode.

Great picture of the future owner My daughters ask me every day it seems "When are you getting your car?"

    Jared,

Laughed at your comments, but let me respond:

1 - My son's dance - yeah. Right now he begs to ride in it, but that'll change.

2 - Red calipers? No, I actually sold my car w/Red calipers to get this one (go vs. show)

3 - As for my NOS, BLUE DOT, US-SPEC Frankie, you're right. It's in the mail to you. I've decided on the Satellite Radio, GPS, MP3 upgrade instead. You can send me your red calipers in trade. Deal?

4 - Rideheight - the car will leave Wayne's shop, go first for a PPI (top to bottom), then to a local alignment shop where everything will get adjusted. I just want it out of there.

5 - Trunk paint - yeah, I know it should be Silver. I've mentioned it a few times. It's one of those 'issues' I get tired of yelling about. I'm going to try again, but if it means pulling out wiring (or ANYTHING), I"m going to leave it and deal w/it later. I'm not expecting any concour's in my near future anyway.

6 - Batteries - thanks, didn't know about Optimas. Where can you get them?

7 - Scratches - yeah, the poor body guy is pretty good and he complains about the same thing.

8 - The 'beach bum' you mention is actually pretty good. His dad owned a porsche racing team at Sear's in the 50's,60's &70's. If anyone remembers the 'flower power speedsters', that was his dad. Wayne Krieger was the engine guy back then. He's a good guy, but more hippy than beach bum (remember - this is NorCal, not SoCal).

    SATMan,
I went with the NOS hood badge, gold w/orange bars. This is their workshop. Its not open on weekends. THey have a showroom up at Sear's point (in the newly developed upper paddock, next to the cart track). I'm not sure when its open. Send me an email w/you phone number and I can give you a lot more info you should know about.

WHOOOEEE - DEAL! It finally worked! Took the bait. I'm gonna stand out by my mailbox waiting for it to come - -10º windchill or not! I have the perfect CD DVD MP3 GPS XMSR player in mind for the trade. Really funky/hip animated LCD graphics. Your son will love it - I'll even get the optional Nintendo feature.

    NOS, BLUE DOT, US-SPEC
Sure, go ahead and RUB IT IN why don't ya. That damn radio is UNOBTANIUM!

Ah, no big deal, it'll be covered with carpet anyway.

6 - Batteries - thanks, didn't know about Optimas. Where can you get them?
I got the Odyssey made by Hawker. It's smaller than the Optima, and fits in the box nicely on it's side. Very high quality battery, with a price to match. I got mine at a local Batteries Plus store.

8 - Wayne Krieger was the engine guy back then.
I thought Krieger played with the Doors back then... oh, that was Robbie.

    Jared,

I found another blue dot. Its standing beside your mailbox in the snow. Oh...that's you. Uhm sorry. Gee, hope you willed me your car for spares.

We're gonna do silver in the hood area (same as engine bay). Wayne does want to do the car right, and I gues wemust have mis-communicated on that particular point about 7 or 8 mos ago (gets kinda fuzzy after all that time). Watching them try to finish the car is interesting. There is a ton of fine tuning that goes on to get things right (understatement). Neil (the guy with his head under my dash) is REALLY good.

Mike - Got your email. The shop at Sears is by appt only. Best bet, after talking to me first, is to talk to Wayne about what you are looking for. He does find some nice cars, but he also knows what they are worth (don't expect a 'great deal'). I think if you spend time on this bboard, you can tell that the word is out on good cars, and the direction is only up. So if you are realistic, Wayne may not be a bad source but you should be as knowledgeable as you can. I'll try to ring you during my commute this evening.

Jared - I think maybe Wayne just partied with the Doors. J'j'j'j'ar'r'r'red'd'd - you still out there? Neil did get the Playstation up and running on my drop down LCD Screen. My boy and I sat in the jump seats and played GranTurismo3. He checked out my Ruf-RGT (which now has 1,000HP) while I ran the AUDI S4 (w/800HP + AWD) at Laguna Seca. He's 4 and can almost keep up (corkscrew is too fast for him). I'm creating a monster.
