Oh yeah, expect to re-install your steering wheel when you get it on the road and find it's at a slight angle when the car is going straight.

    Ask me how I know.

"he who holds the cash calls the shots"

This is good advice if you want to spend a fortune in attorneys fees....

Be a decent person and talk to the guy about a PPI.

    Outstanding!!!!

    Chris:

Love the CAR!!! Hey, are those H4 lights inside those retro chrome rings? That is what I am planning on doing on mine. My wrench and I have put together a detailed work list, with a PPI before pickup. And I am still scheduling for an April 23rd pickup.

OK, on to your problem. I really don't know how much you have had done to this car. But changing the rules at the end of the game is hazardous to your wellbeing, and the wellbeing of the car!! Did you and the shop agree to a list of things that needed to be done as part of this project? Are you looking for someone to verify that those things were done? Or do you want someone to look for "other" things that maybe should have been included?

If you are looking for someone to verify the things that you agreed to, that you can't easily identify yourself, then I would ask them if you could have those items verified before you pick it up. I am sure that they will easily agree to that. (You paying for the PPI.)

If you want someone to do a whole "looksee to make sure that it was done right . . . . . . , " then you are asking for trouble. Anything new that is pointed out - that you will want "fixed" - will likely result in your car getting the extended sunshine treatment in the rear lot rather than a series of quick fixes.

If they are an honest shop, they will not protest if you ask to have someone go over the things that the two of you agreed to have done. If they are not an honest shop, any PPI will not result in productive corrections. I would still do it for your peace of mind - but yes - ask first.

    All,

Thanks for the comments. I'm not looking to change anything in the contract with a PPI, just to make sure the work was done properly. I'm not a mechanic (not even shade tree quality) so what the hell do I know. Given that the car took an extra 8 mos past the contract due date, I think its reasonable to ask for a PPI. There is already a 'warranty' on all mechanicals for a time period, but I'd like to know of any hidden issues up front since the car was essentially rebuilt from a well preserved shell. Remember (for those of you who do) where it started?

I think a simple PPI to check compression, and make sure things like wiring look correct, etc...

just to make sure contract work is correct is all. It was never supposed to be a concours car, just a re-born daily driver.

    OOOHHHHMMMMYYYY GGGGGGODDDDD

    Chris:

You have more cahones than I have.

Compared to your car, mine is getting a fresh coat of polish!!! I certainly would ask the resto guy to have someone else go over the car before you pick it up. But if you're looking for a reborn daily driver, not a concours restore and have with a mechanical warranty to boot, you can't be in too bad shape.

That said, a confirmation of the engine would go a long way.

Good luck. Let us know the end result.
