    73 VG E Progress Report

Well, we are making progress. Engine and tranny have been pulled. Engine is being detailed. Still "talking" about how to treat the fan. Wheels gone, and the body is up on stands. Flat areas have been ground down, the rest is going to be stripped to get rid of all of the red paint that is left.

Front and rear windows have been removed, targa stainless has been removed. He found some rust down under the Targa bar. The rusty area will be cut out and replaced. Still on schedule for delivery on April 23rd. Getting ready to send the sport seats to Autos Int'l for rebuilding. Still looking for some wool houndstooth to use as the inserts. Time is running out.

    Larry,

Glad you're making progress, but I've got some bad news:

You ain't gonna be done on April 23!!!!

Not trying to toss a bucket of water onto your parade, just hoping you haven't promised your daughter she gets to drive off from her wedding reception in the finished car on April 23.

Do continue to keep us posted. Good luck!

April 23rd??? I agree with Mr. Turbo. I wonder if Yopurp would agree with us. Don't sweat it, though. You will be driving it someday.

I think you should see this post over on Pelican:

I like the look of coupes more than Targas, as do many others. But this idea of having a painted top and roll bar is very nice, IMO, and gives the car a look that's close to a coupe.

    Larry,

I hope we are all wrong, but these guys all told me way back in the beginning to set my expectations for a year to 'do it right'. If it got done faster, it would 'exceed' my expectations. Well, I didn't plan on a year and it certainly wore on me. Just remember, you've waited your whole life for one of these cars. A few extra months is worth the work being done correctly. My 2 cents: don't push the timeframe over quality. They might just cut a few corners to keep you happy on the timeframe which I think would be a mistake. I had to make that adjustment about July.

Now, I thought I recalled that the engine wasn't being redone, nor all the brakes and running gear. If thats still true, and its just body work and reassembly, then you might be done in April. Then again, it looked like all your MFI and wiring was pulled out of the engine block so I might have missed a rebuild in there someone in your posts. Either way, it will be great (says the guy who still doesn't quite have the car).

    April 23'rd.....

Yeah, I'm with the Wolfman. This looks like April 23'rd 2005 to me...'YOU CAN'T RUSH QUALITY' is what THEY said to ME....

And you can't. And shouldn't. Maybe they did mean 2005.....

    Hope you're wrong

To the cynics and experienced in the crowd:

Yes, I have heard it all before. And I don't doubt that there is a possibility that the delivery will be delayed, but not 2005 . Keep in mind that what is going on here is just cosmetics. There is no engine rebuild, no brake rebuild, no tranny rebuild, no interior restoration. He is detailing the engine, which may be why the MFI is off.

The car is getting new paint, new carpeting, a fresh radio, oil cooler, air conditioning (OK, hold the comments on that one, I have already dealt with it). This is a small shop (very small) one guy operation, and this is the car he is working on now. He has so far hit everything that he said he would do.

I have a final PPI scheduled for April 1st or thereabouts, and everyone is confident that we will be on target. Based on that, you should be seeing the next set of pictures in another week or so.

And, I'm not rushing him at the sacrifice of quality. His interest, and mine, is in getting it done properly. I will just keep smiling and dreaming, and waiting, and keeping you guys posted.

thanks for your comments, even though you are so so negative!!

    Larry,

Just remember, April 1st has another name!

Fun trivia fact (related) - my COA says my car was built on April 1, 1973. Guess it really did find the right home.
