Jack, I am soooo embarrassed. Now that I have passed 55, my wife said that I should stop assuming that I remember people's names, because I don't . Hope that I haven't screwed up that ride that you promised me.

    Everyone else:

I haven't taken anything that you guys have said harshly. I enjoy the repartee. I have learned so much here, I continue to welcome your comments, just as I have over the past 6 months (has it been that long??). I know that you are trying to be helpful, and give me the benefit of your experience. I don't know where else I would have learned so much in so short a time.

My wrench admitted that he might not make the deadline if things don't go as planned. And, how can things go "as planned" when there is a 30 year old car in the mix. But we both agree that the quality of the job is of the utmost importance. We shall see. The last 6 months have flown, the next XX days (or should I say XXX days?) till delivery will also fly I am sure.

    Larry,

Keep the faith, and be patient. It will be worth it.
And who knows? Maybe your wrench will prove all the naysayers wrong. Tell him he'll get a special S Registry salute if he does.

The west coast drive you mentioned is spectacular! Something everyone should do at least once!

Spoke to my wrench today. He is still confident that the date is workable, "as long as the spring is early and the creek don't rise." We'll see. It is all in good fun.

    thanks

    Larry,

Its gonna be fine. Does your wrench frequent this bboard? If so, and you tell us his name, you might just make the 23rd.

PS - I'll give you a ride to Monterey (right after I get to drive my car). You just need to get to SFO. I think I already promised Shawn and Jared the same thing if they fly out, so someone needs to call shotgun, and 2 someone elses need to start practicing Yoga.

    No Secrets Here

    Chris:

Yes, my wrench does frequent this board and the Pelican board, too. He is Mike McGrath from Toybox motors, in Westport, CT, and my experiences todate have been nothing but great. I think from his perspective, he would rather have someone that wasn't as much of a pest . . . . . .

And regarding the ride to Monterey . . . . . when you were dating, did you ask multiple girls out just to see which one would show on Saturday night?

    I feel so used.

    Larry,

Great to hear about Mike, sounds like a good guy.

As for feeling used, you need to look at it another way. My college roomate used to hit on every girl we met. He figured if he propositioned 100 women, and closed the deal with even 5%, he was in business. Funny thing was that his close ration was closer to 30% and he still hit on every women we met. But, just in case thats not how you look at it, I think I said we could cram a few in the back. No one should be left out.

Maybe we should plan for '05. Let's see, Westport CT to Menlo Park CA. How many miles does a 911 cover in a typical 24hrs of LeMans? So plan a few days then. Its a Porsche, it'll make it! I think you can buy oil along the way.

    Chris,

Sounds like an old frat brother of mine. In the late 60's he propositioned every girl that he saw on a street corner. He got slapped more times than any of us, but he also got his reward significantly more often than all of the rest of us put together.

Can't see how I can relate this story to my current situation. Oh well.

Re: 2005 in Monterey . . . . the Westport to Chicago trip is this April/May/whenever as I pick up the car. Next year, a definite possibility of Chicago==>San Diego==>Monterey==>Seattle Should be a blast. That long twisty up the coast, and a couple of extra compact flash cards for the digital cam MMMMM MMMMMM Good!!

Instead of someone learning yoga to squeeze into the back seats of your car, I would be glad to carry someone down to Monterey and back.
