Thread: the used 911 story

With all due respect to Jack, more rubber and engine is the antethesis of what the early 911 is all about IMO. That's why I'm staying with RS flares and having a hot rod 2.8L built for my '72 track car.

Speaking of '72 911s, Zimmerman has a thing about the '72 gear boxes with internally replaced input shaft seals that precludes his including this year from his list of best early 911s - he has a point, but he forgot it applies to the first 2/3rd of '73 911 production as well.

Has anyone had the chance to drive the different years ie 1965 thru 1973...how do they differ?

That's not a bad place to be stuck.

You know I started with a 2.2S with Webbers, then went to a 2.4S with Webbers and finally I've got a 2.4S with MFI. The 2.2 was FUN FUN FUN ... once you got over 4200 RPM.

Like Tabs said, the 2.4 has more bottom end; consequently, this was the reason I personally went with the larger displacement engine ... more torque = more drivablity. Seeing as how my car was my daily driver, that was important.

You can't beat the peakiness of the 2.2S, but you can't beat displacement when it comes to getting off the corners. I am currently planning a 2.7 or short-stroke 2.9 ... we'll see which parts make themselves available first.

There is no replacement for displacement.

I expect this could be many stock and worn out 911/912 cars with original suspension, rubber, shocks, sway bars and spring rates. Considering this 912 has small 165/15 ? tires imagine how uncontrollable it would be on tires that have grip. Fortunately the owner appears to be finding his limits with instruction at an AX.

    Ther ya go again Jack

Here is a picture of my Salvatore Espresso maker and Mini Mazzer Coffee Grinder. It can steam milk and make a jolt of espresso in under 30 seconds. The grinder is so quiet that you can easily forget to turn it off, and is infinately adjustable. All in all it makes great Caffe Lattes which just what I need after seeing yet ANOTHER picture of Jacks car.

Well gosh...I guess this settles it. Randy, thanks for this info. If only I'd known...I'd have never bought my car. Instead I'd have opted for one of those then new 1974 models, thus eliminating any potential trouble spots, right? Now, here I am, stuck with a worthless POC 911 that nobody wants. BTW Jack, I like pics of your car...even on a book discussion post. Here's one of my worthless old beater, sunning herself in the back yard...

After looking at Shawns pic of a very loose 911/912

I wonder how bad my early T will perform , not in engine power
but how will it handle corners.

What can be done to tighten it up?( not a soft ride)
Also what can I do to lower it and level it out a little
