    911T Karman build

    Hi, I have just purchased a 1970 911T and by the VIN number it is a "Karman" built car. Does anyone know what that means to the value of the car if any? And does anyone know how I can find a color chart of original paint colors for this year.

    Thank you

    see these two links...

    Julia, the karmann body designation only indicates the unibody construction origination. Please see the two following links that contain infomation from two extremely knowledgeable early s members;

    Hope that helps. Shawn.

    You can find a color wheel at paintscratch.com but I can't say that it gives you a truly accurate sense of what the colors look like in real paint on real cars.

    If you're interested in seeing a specific color, put out the word on this bulletin board. Within hours, some times minutes, someone will post a picture of their car in the color requested.

    And if there's one thing you don't have to twist arms over its getting people to post pictures of their cars.

    Julia,

    Welcome to the board and congrats on buying an early 911. But now you need to post some pictures of it, and introduce it more fully. Its sort of a 'tradition' around here.

    Unhappy Didn't get the car,anyone have a 911FS

    Well, I thought I had the car. We had all but purchased it and when my husband got there (Washington from Sacramento) turned out there was body damage not visable to the naked eye, more rust, not-real Fuchs, and a horribly sounding and shifting transmission. The seller was as honest as his knowlegde of the cars could discribe it and it looked almost great in pictures. We new there was some work to be done and that is OK, but this was beyond what we wanted. I have to say when my husband called, I wanted him to bring it home anyway, but I trust his judgment. He knows his cars. We are still looking, so if anyone knows a good deal on an early 911 that needs more in cosmetics than machanics, please let me know.

    Sorry to hear about that but you've learned the first lesson in purchasing an early 911-- A picture is worth a 1,000 words but many sellers only give you the 10 words you want to hear to get you to the car. Your husband was absolutely right walking away from that car. And shame on the seller for drawing him such a long distance by withholding the true condition of the car.

    Take your time on the search. We're all on the lookout for a great deal, the mythical "I found it in a barn covered in dust and the owner didn't know how valuable the car really was..." story. But, more likely, you should be prepared to spend more than you expected to get a quality, well-maintained car to avoid many nasty, unpleasant surprises during your ownership.

    Good luck with your continued search.

    I think the term "a good 20 footer" has turned into "a good jpeg-er". They all seem to look good in photos, especially compressed jpegs.

    You did the right thing. It's important to not let emotion take over when buying any classic car.
    The right one will come along, and you'll know it when you see it.
