Question Pics of original 70S keys

I think this is one for the man with the nicest, unrestored, cleanest trunk, shiniest interior and maybe most posted Irish Green 72S on the planet.

Given all that, you've got to have your original keys right?

So, are they the solid metal, slightly elliptical with the Porsche name? When did they go to the deluxe hollow plastic coated key? I'm looking for original key blanks for my 70S. Mine is a generic Taylor that's almost shot.

I'm going to pull the ignition to get my code and have them code cut.

I also think it would be neat to see original keys and period fobs/keychains.

Michael...sorry I just noticed this. Yeah, I still have the original keys. I also have the little pouch they came in. They were then the plastic head...not solid, but with a big hole for a split ring to pass through. You were given 4 keys with a new car...two black, two red. The red were "valet" keys...will operate the ignition, but NOT the glovebox...or, I assume, in the case of Targas, not the trunk latch key. If memory serves, and it does most of the time, my 1970 911T keys were also in this style...as were my 1969 912. But my '66 912 had all metal keys. Anybody know what year the switch was made? Sorry no pic...but no digital camera here. I've thought of getting one, but then there would be the problem of figuring out how to plug it into this low end computer...I'm a bit of a byte phobe...

    Thanks Paul

Of all the original pics I have seen of cars with keys in the ignition they all seemed to be the SWB cars. All of those looked like the solid metal keys.

I do a little leatherwork from time to time as a hobby and thought it would be a fun project to recreate the original pouch. So, if anyone has good detail pictures I'd sure appreciate it.

    Cheers

As a side note. Anyone know how to find the code for the valet keys? I'll pull the glove box lock tonight to see if it has a different key code.

From what I can gather, the difference between the Valet and the "regular" key is a groove on the side of the key. The Glove Box and Targa Trunk Lock cylinders have a tab that matches the groove in the key to allow the key to be put into the lock. The door and iginition locks do not have this tab.
