    911 T distributors in 1970

    Guys

I am having work done on the distributor in my May '70 914-6
I have had a recurrent flat spot at 2000 rpm and my mechanics have diagnosed the advance not operating correctly and are sending the unit away for remedial work
    I read in the 914 workshop manual that I should have a Bosch distributor 0 231 159 008 JFDR 6 ( R ) - relating to the 911 T
    however the current one is a 0 231 159 007 JFDR 6 which I believe is a 911 S unit
taking into account the flat spot, the 007 unit works well with the zip I expect from the motor
? - is there any material difference between the 007 and 008 housings or is it only the internals to differentiate the T and S
ie - should I have a 008 housing or shouldn't it make any real life difference ?

    TIA
    Dennis

To me it would depend on the engine, if it is a stock 2.0 'T' engine then I would use the correct 'T' distributor. Not to say there aren't more aggressive advance curves that might work, but to isolate a problem I'd start with everything matching original build.

Ha !! it's winter up here, only 50 F. here today, cold front coming tonight. This is the see-saw season of big temperature swings, versus summer when it's just hot all the time!
