    well today was...

not exactly a pinacle moment for the most knowledgeable early car group source on the planet.

However, our original poster got all to go out and sit in thier cars. Nothing wrong with that.

I, on the other hand, drove the 20 miles home during lunch to go look it up. There was no work getting done until I knew for certain.

It sucks to be me. Shawn.

Brian, are you going to leave it in the box for the next ten years like I did? I thought I might need it one day but if the original has lasted for 34 years I think it might last another 34.

    Hi Rudy,

The 2.2S is in a shop out of town for a complete engine rebuild. I should (but probably won't) have it back by the end of next month. I will definately install it then. I don't want it to walk off while it is in the shop. We both know how hard it is find these knobs. I can't wait to run the new motor thru the gears with that knob.

When I saw the price for one with the 915 shift pattern I almost fainted. Maybe I should test market early 911 shift knob bras?

I remember back...to when people would trash these originals while removing them...to install some $3.95 aftermarket knob made of softwood, fastened with a set screw. Arrrgh! Today? THe $400 carbon fiber knobs are a must, right???

    Gear Shift lever

I just checked my 72S' gear shift lever and it is chrome. I have owned the car since 1979 and I have all of the records. My emergancy brake handle is black.
The car was made in February, 1972.
