notchy gearbox

Just had all bushings in my shifter rebuilt/replaced but the problem persist- also had the clutch adjusted:
when the car is cold the car shifts are very smooth..almost as smooth as butter but....as the car warm up the shifting gets very notchy with reverse, first and second the hardest gears to get into. There is even some grinding for reverse which i was told isnt too abnormal.
I have a 1970 S with the 901 tranny.
Any ideas appreciated.

What is your trany lube. I switched to Swepco (PWS I know there are others but...), and I could feel the improvement.

I dont know what my lube is..I will ask my mechanic.
Does this at all sound like worn synchros?

The shifter may still be a "little" out of adjustment. You can grab a piece of reverse on a 915 downshift from 5th if the thing is not set up properly. I believe I recall touching 5th going to 3rd way back when.
I know that you hope it's not synchros but the more slippery the lube the more they like to fight and heat doesnt' help.
I've no experience with Swepco but I hear it is a great product.

I too felt a difference putting Swepco 201 into my 915. I had no real problems, things were just smoother.

I know sometimes when we WANT to feel a difference - we convince ourselves we DO feel a difference... but this was definitely noticeable.

Double clutching seems to help with reverse engagement.

Sometimes getting into reverse is very difficult even after engaging second gear before reverse.
What are the signs of a worn synchros?

Worn synchros will get you a nice "buzz-grind' back through the shifter when going through the gears. Again, you can replicate these problems with a poorly adjusted clutch (or worn out one) as well. How many miles on yours?

I will speak to my mechanic tomorrow about the clutch and tranny.
I have had the car for 9years of which 5 was in storage but this problem has existed for a long time.
I will do some research on the clutch mileage.
Would a worn clutch give you normal shifting but gets more difficult as it car warms up.

No Buzz-grind as i go thru the gears and it is most diificult to shift when:
1. car is warmed up
2. when moving from a standstill to reverse or first.

i need a new clutch.
My mechanic recommend doing the gear synchro when we do the job.
