Adjusting valves too tight or too loose

When adjusting valves, is it better to err on the side of too loose and have to listen to them rattle or too tight and worry that about power loss?

Loose valves are happy valves. You can burn a valve that it too tight.

PS: If you adjust them and they get noisy again after a few miles it's not the adjustment, it's your guides. They are worn out.
