    70,

The factory sound blanket replacement is not a bad deal... the new ones are MUCH lighter in weight (11 oz vs. about 4 lbs) and therefore much easier to install... and will stay in place because of it's lightness...

The big problem with the originals was they're bloody weight!!! ...
after a while the foam would deteriorate, couldn't support the weight, separate, and the blanket would fall down…

I just put a new one in mine and the sound seems to be the same as the old heavy one..

    Hope this helps,

Man, you guys are wimpin' out on me here.

I have NO sound deadening material, big pulleys - which practically doubles fan noise - and my motor sits 4 or 5 inches behind my head with the fan facing forward; you don't hear me complaining.

At least you 911 guys have a back seat, package tray, and rear-facing fan (read: incorrectly placed motor) to reduce noise.

Actually, I'd go with Chuck's recommendation. The re-issue sound deadener is far lighter and you can use an aerosol/spray on interior glue to stick that sucker in place. Dynamat is another choice, but it's all shiny-ugly and very heavy ... but it's relatively cheap and can be found at most autoparts stores.

I have Dynamat under the package tray and rear bulk-head. That seems to work quite well without the sound mat in the engine compartment. But then I still have the rear seats and carpet as well.

Was it hard to put back in the package trat and rear bulk-head after putting the Dynamat?

    RickS,

Did you notice more heat in the car with no engine pad? The OE mat was designed for heat insulation as well as noise.

Do the new lighter OE pads have the same dare I say "R value" as the originals? Bueller....Bueller?

I've already yanked mine along with my engine and want something lighter. The sound difference won't bother me a bit but, the added heat might.

I've talked to a couple of guys selling the "NEW, SHINY, LIGHT" pads but, can't get an answer on either the heat issue or the sound suppression.
