Poor little 911 disappeared after 1967 and was forgotten about. There are clubs, registrys, and forums for every model 911 out there...not for little 911 "normal"

    Please let me stay. Shawn.

To be totally accurate, the 911 (sans sufix) wasn't detuned until the S arrived in 1967, and a milder cam with the new "S" headers left power about the same as the previous cars with the "Solex" cams.

In 1965 at least, the 911 had an exceptionally opulent interior. It's trunk was trimed in the same carpet used in the people compartment of the 356.

    RS... No Improvement Needed?

Oops... I thought that a RSR 2.8 would work. Too bad pump gas (91 oct) in Calif won't... sigh. Or the ign/distrib parts supply....

Bruce Anderson's "porsche 911 Performance Handbook" pg 56 states that "...the header system developed for the 911S was then used on the 911 Normal engine. The change in the exhaust system increased the horsepower, however, from 130 DIN hp to 140 DIN hp. Porsche felt the the difference betwen the S and the Normal would not be enough and took steps to reduce the engine's power to the original 130 DIN hp. To resolve the problem initially, a restrictor ring was intalled at the end of the header system where it joins to the muffler. For the 1967 models, in November 1966 new milder cam shafts were introduced to provide a broader, more-elastic power curve and to restrict the power to its former value for advertising purposes, and the restrictor ring was removed from the exhust system. The type number for this new engine was 901/06."

I have a 901/05 engine and I would be pleased to show you the mentioned exhaust restriction. There are two ugly weld beads placed internally, about a 1/2 " inside both of the exhaust system
    manifold outlet bases.

    So there, Shawn.

    edit: spelling...again.
