Novacaine! What's that? Just drill and fill.

Actually Jared, I have lots of patients and the more the better.

Speaking of Hershey are you going there instead of Rennsport? If you are may I ask a favor, could you snoop around while there and if you see a nice red shroud there buy it for me? Thanks.

I've seen earlier and later red ones on ebay but none with MFI cutouts and the grey duct. I've seen lot's of green which is strange since I think they produced more S than E cars. Probably all the people rebuilding and swapping their old shrouds after putting a red one in.

Wish I was going to Hershey

What is the difference between an early and late red MFI shroud?

Does anyone know anything about the amber shrouds sold by GT Racing? I don't know if they would have the mfi cut outs and you'd probably have to attach your oil cooler duct. Maybe you'd be able to use your dye and make a few cuts and have a "brand new" red shroud?

    Brian,

I'm going to try to make it to Rennsport - If I do, I'll be flying down.
As much as I'd like to caravan, there's just too much going on at work to take 4 extra weekdays off .
Hershey was a bit disappointing last year, probably due to the weather. I'm going to pass this year.

I have a friend in LA who's been hunting a red MFI shroud at swap meets. He's come up dry so far - only seeing junk. I'll tell him too keep looking.

Have you tried Parts Heaven or Road & Race?

    That really wouldn't work Tom...

What the red dye is doing is retinting the red gel-coat that is already on and in the fiberglass...

The amber shrouds have an amber tinted clear gel-coat that would always come through no matter what you'd dye it with ...

The dyes are translucent, they can only tint, what ever is underneath comes through.

Oh well, just a thought. Chuck, do you know if those amber shrouds will work otherwise? I like the 906 look that they give the motor.

    Not sure Tom,

I agree that the look for a racy motor is super cool...

I've noticed that a lot of early race motors had shrouds that were either amber/clear or just black, like an old 'T'....

    Cheers,

    Jared,

Hope you do make it to Daytona and we have a chance to meet. I did call Parts Heaven, nothing there. Good thought, I will send Dave B. an email to cover all the bases.

    Tom,

Good thought also. I looked at GT Racing's shrouds and it looks like they are the 2.4/2.7 style with the bolt on gray plastic piece that deflects air to the cooler. Makes you wonder if they can't have their supplier use red gelcoat instead of amber. Hmmm......

I might be talked into selling my red shroud...it's original & in great shape. Six figures with no decimal points... Seriously, good luck in the hunt. Count me among those who love the engine shroud in amber...somehow it just screams "lightweight" and "Race". I mean. that red color used in the "S" gelcoat must weigh what? 1/10th of a gram?
