wheels for 72

What would be the correct wheels for a 72s. I currently have 7x15. Would deep sixes be period correct?

Hi Mark,

The correct wheels for your 72 was 6X15 however not the deep six. Some refer to them as the flat six because of the depth of the lip is shallower. The part number you are looking for is 911.361.020.00. The last two numbers refer to the centercap mounting (three prong). The 911.361.020.10 is a later version of the flat 6X15 but the center cap mount is now a ring.

The deep six (69-71) is desired more for the look of the wheel that anything else. It's part number is 901.361.012.06.

Thanks, There is a fellow with some deep sixes for sale locally, and I woundered if they were period correct for my car. It would have been a plus if they were. I guess i'll just have to see how they look

A nice set of deep sixes would be a great find. You should check prices (ebay, etc.) before you pass on them or sell them cheap. They are easily worth $250 per wheel in fair condition and go up from there. I've seen nice sets go for over $400 per wheel.

Yup! The "flat sixes" are less dear...because, like us poor folks, so many of them were made. Functionally? IMHO, the "flat" sixes are better, having been designed for tubeless tire use...

Which makes me wonder. Al Reed mounted my new tires on my deep 6's w/o tubes. (Pirelli 205/60/15) Are they gonna hold?
