For the resourceful group of you that don't mind missing a family dinner at the kitchen table....you could spend the evening "fiddle-faddle" with new vapor barriers from a 1989 VW Golf( plain USA version, not ROW or GTI). These can be made to fit a 911 in the case that originality is not an issue. These are "thick", you can coax them with a hair dryer from about 8-12" away so that they conform to the inner stucture of the 911 door. With the spare trimmings, make an "extra" flap so that you have access to the window regulator if need be, or to alaso vacuum out the bottom of the door and keep the water drains free from obstuction.
Even with the NOS vw stock, the glue strips still hold up well. BUT you get one shot at installing them. CLEAN the door edges and joining spots with adhesive remover or lightly scuff with mild sand paper. A little creativity and your 911 will stay dry even going through a car wash!
I will post the factory part #'s for both the VW golf and the Porsche OEM from work in the AM.
See you guys in Daytona.
I could use any of a number of "glue" products, but what is the right stuff.
We'll look for you in Daytona.

jens and crew -
The part #'s have chaanged a few times in the porsche system over the past 6-8 months( sadly the prices have too..)
Currently I am coming up these 2 #'s that could be used in the RS cars. These don't specify RS appplication - but they are the european part #'s vs using the US ones.......so maybe there is a difference, maybe there is not.
Left Side - 911-531-889-00
Right sie 911-531-890-00
These come with a glue strip already incorporated into the foil. The VW ones I mentioned used to come that way too. The tech manuals specify a tube of glue for "door foil recalls" on the golfs.....this was mainly due to aggressive stereo installation shops in the 80's ripping them out to put speakers in( remember when 3 way ADS plates were the bomb!!!!) so they came up with some special german glue that once you got it on your skin it stayed for weeks.
The VW vapor barriers are:
191-867-147-M
They also list a generic "vapor sheet" which is 1100x600x2 that can cut and fit.
The porsche ones list at 43 bucks.......time is money too, seems like a cheap solution IMO.
Good luck guys, it will be nice to have your cars dry ALL the time with these installed.
Jim
Jim,
Thanks so much for the info. Do you know what the current Porsche barriers look like?
Hope to meet you in Daytona, will you be running a car this weekend? If which one? Thanks.
