Thread: Picking Up a '71 2.2 S in Nova Scotia

    John,
Nova is quite away from Philly. Long drive for a unproven car. Through experiance, there is nobody for a long ways that can go through that car before the trip. The fuel lines as mentioned above are a big thing, as well as the brakes. The border will be no problem, as the car is 25 years old. I live 45 miles from the canadian line so I know the deal with U.S. customs. Have your bill of sale in order. If you luck out and find a happy customs officer, you can be out of there in 30 minutes. You might want to call ahead at the border crossing where you will pass through and ask exactly what they need. ( always get the name of who you talk to).
Or..........forget the hassle and just sell the car to me, I'll give you a finders fee. No muss, no fuss.........

    Progress Report

My friend flew to Dartmouth (Near Halifax), Nova Scotia today and picked up the '70 S. He's driven to St. Andrews, New Brunswick and has stopped there for the night. He had a cold day because the temperature is in the 40's and the car has no heat -- it has headers and no heat exchangers.

He reports that the engine runs great, smooth with good power. The transaxle is a little noisy, but it shifts fine. The body looks good, except for the left front fender, which looks a little wavy to him as if it had some collision damage repair. He says the car is not Aubergine as it looked in the pictures, but more of a Burgundy. Which makes sense as Aubergine was not a listed color available in 1970, but Burgundy was.

I'm hoping that Murphy will occupy himself elsewhere until my friend arrives in Philadelphia. I'll post another update tomorrow night.

    Day 2

Today George crossed the border from Canada into the U.S. with no hassle. He's much more comfortable as he bought a portable heater at a truck stop that plugs into the cigarette lighter. He gave up on the wipers and applied Rainex to the windshield.

Things are running smoothly except he mentions how often he has to stop for gas (does mileage differ with Webers as opposed to MFI?). Stopped tonight in Westpost, CT and will have a short drive tomorrow to Philly. Hoping Murphy is concentrating on something else for one more day!

    Cheers,
    John

Wow, just getting into the U.S. is an accomplishment, both from a mechanical and red-tape standpoint. Did you end up doing any maintenance or just cross your fingers?

    Home Safely

George drove the '70 S from Westport, CT to his home in Philly on Saturday. He says that everything ran smoothly and the trip was uneventful. He looked the car over more closely today and advises that it is rust-free as far as he has looked so far. I asked him to rate the paint and he gave it a 7-8 on a 1-10 scale. He gave the interior a solid 9, saying the seats were just about perfect (not sport seats unfortunately) and that the carpect was excellent.

The next step is to ship the car from Philly to Bend, which should happen in the next couple of weeks. I've already acquired chrome bumper guards to replace the '73 rubber ones, and Durant mirrors to replace the black ones that are on there.

I'm looking forward to comparing how the Webbers perform compared to MFI.

    Cheers,
    John Audette
