Long shot - early 911 (912) Porsche speedsters

From memory, both of the cars below sold via ebay around 5 or so years ago. I think that both were 912 based and built by a gentleman named Ted in Indiana.

I thought I would ask (this is the long shot bit) if anyone knew of their current whereabouts. Any and all leads appreciated.

Also, where do the 912 guys hang out on the interweb?

Check out 912BBS.org. Probably the largest collective concentration of 912 knowledge on the internet.

I like the red one. The silver car is trying too hard.

I went to Eureka , Calif. some years ago and drove / inspected the red car when it was for sale there. I passed because there was a set of large channel steel welded front to rear on each side of the pan (there might have been large holes drilled in the flat part of channel ...I cannot remember for certain) . It did not look too clean up underneeth either (alot of undercoat ? ... I cannot remember. Once I saw the channels I really did not continue to look much closer). Of course , 912s were worth less then. And it might have needed the extra stiffening. It just turned me off at the time.

I'm not too concerned about the channels - to me it demonstrates that the builder knew he had to strengthen the sills after chopping the roof off.

I was seriously interested in the red Speedster back in '03 when Ted originally had it for sale. As I recall, it didn't go for much. He and I corresponded back and forth for a while, but I couldn't get out to Indianapolis to look at it, and it sold on ebay. I think he has quite a good eye for details, and the design choices he made were pretty darn good imho. I think he called the silver car a spyder and it was more of an updated 550 than Speedster. Interesting how they keep surfacing from time to time.

Last time I talked to him he was thinking about doing something with a 50s American V8 to run the Carrera Panamericana. He was also pondering combining some Boxster elements onto a 914, but I don't know if he pursued that or not.
