Thread: need the right door detent

need help with finding the correct door detent

I bought the 71- door detent for my 71 911s. The "arm" part of it looks fine, solid and attaches fine. The problem I have is with the bolt spread is shorter than my old one. It goes into the door in the right way, it looks as though it would bolt up correctly-- if the bolt holes were farther apart. If anyone has any ideas i'd appreciate it. I don't know if my original one is repairable as the hole that connects to the door jam pin is ripped out. This broken piece is the reason for needing body work done on my car, I don't want it to get any worse.

Why can't you take the arm out of the one you bought and put it into the existing detent? You just have to take one or both of the springs off to get it in.

that won't work the "new style" has a different kind of detent point on it, it bumps out on the top and bottom, where the OE bumps in on the sides.
