Speeking of Speedos....

Mine has an intermittent flutter that is becoming less intermittent as time goes on. I had the speedo rebuilt by the good folks in CA and it didn't cure the problem which means - ta da - that was not the problem. Any BTDT? Do I need a new cable?

Yes you probably do... but try this first

Disconnect the cable at the spedo, hold the cable vertical and spray some quality penetrating oil... or a few drops of 3-in-1 oil down in the margin between the cable and the shield. Let it be over night, with the cable in that position the lube will make it's way down stream.

Put it back together the next day and see whatsup...

Cheep bastard that I am, I've put off changing my spedo cable for about 15 years like this.

I've made a friend of one of the technicians at North Hollywood Speedometer. His name is Waldek (pronounced Val-deck) although they call him "Walt". He likes being called by his real name and for the life of me I can't understand how tough that could be. Call him Valdek if you get him on the phone. He'll appreciate it even if he does'nt say so.
Anyhow, he's done a bunch of vintage BMW speedo work for me as well as some custom one-off gauges that we designed together. I'm going to do some beta testing for him in the next few weeks on a gauge he's come up with for the Vintage BMW motocycle crowd. If it works it will fill a nice void and be a lot cheaper.

Should the "you know what" hits the fan these guys have always been good but knowing a name and hearing a friendly voice on the other end is always nice. Valdek is a good guy.

Chuck and Tom, moto grazie.

Calif Speedo did the work about a year ago, and it never has been totally stable (pre and post work). I am trying the penetrating oil right now and will give that a shot. Plan B will be giving Waldek a call.
