Thread: 911S 2.4: Gas getting into the oil

  1. #11
White smoke on deceleration might be oil getting past the new rings. There is a pretty good vacuum in the cyliders with the throttle closed and it will suck oil.

Good that you are getting the MFI sorted. I'm sure the proper spray pattern will help ememsely. And the adjustments are there for your mid range and idle. I know, I did it myself. I/m not 100% happy, but I never am. It's 100% better though.

Hopefully you find that the pump will come into proper adjustment and you can fne tune it on a dyno with a gas analyzer attached. The effort would be worth it to me for a new motor.

Here's another input for "sanity" as rightly suggested by Yopurp.
My rebuilt 2.2 S engine, finished in 1995, first run in 2000, and run only sporadically since, has NEVER exhibited any sign of gas in the oil.
Here are the specifics that might help narrow things.
Pump rebuilt by Gus, incl injector check okay.
Cold start mechanism has never been used.
Roughly 2000 miles since car finished, Mobil One 15W-50 after first 100 miles with Valvoline HD 30.
Some very short running, in garage only, maybe 8 to 10 times, combined with 5 long runs of 100 to 300 miles, and about 20 short runs of 5 to 20 miles, all for play purposes only.
My guess is that if the internal pump is worn in the high pressure gas areas, that is the most likely cauyse of the problem with an otherwise good running engine.
If the engine runs poorly, i.e. rich lean, smok of various colors, then Gus' comment re bad injector patterns may be likely.
Disclaimer; I am a amateur, NOT an expert, so these are just my obsevations..YMMV

    Silver Bill,

See my other post on General, but ended up doing all the adjustments myself with a fellow board member providing guidance and steady hand on the wrench. Car runs great, now need to go hammer the hills and seat those rings. Thanks to all for the advice.
