    Sunroof help needed

    Can't get the sunroof on my 67 to fully close. The rear , will not come up fully level with the roof line when I try to close.. I read in my workshop manual that there are adjusting screws on the rear glides, which will raise the rear . Can't seem to locate these adjusting screws. Do I have to take out the sunroof panel to access these adjusting screws? Any help appreciated. Thanks;

    Peter,

    Is your roof binding or does it sound like the motor is bogging down? When my battery was not fully charged, mine needed manual 'help' with the last few inches. Fully charged battery(s) and it works fine.

    Thanks Tom, but it still doesn't close all the way, even with the engine running, so I believe it's not a battery problem;

    Peter,

    Mine does the same thing after the body being fully 'restored'. I've had two other shops look at it. They've both tried the adjusting screws, etc... and both have told me that the lifters just get worn. The 'manual help' is only on the last few millimeters to get it flush in the felt, and it seems then to hold in place just fine. If you do get another answer elsewhere, let me know. It's a small annoyance for me relative to sorting out my MFI (still).

    I have same problem with my '72T. It goes away when the car is in the sun and the roof is hot.

    Yeah, same problem here. When I bought my car, the SR worked fine but had no seals. I installed front and rear seals, but haven't gotten the SR to close the last pop in it's own since.

    I've been told it's all in the adjustment of the lifter mechanisms that pivot the panel up at the end, but I haven't found the magic formula. I've just relegated myself to a semi manual operation.

    Chris... sorry to hear the MFI isn't sorted yet .

    I'm convinced the things are possessed. I adjusted mine so that the back finally becomes flush with the roof line but now it is slightly scraping the paint on the back of the panel - YIKES! Even after 'the adjustment', it still needs an assist to close. I monkeyed with it for about 4 hours and gave up. It probably neededs a complete refreshening to get back up to speed - my mechanic is quoting me 3+ hours plus new cables, etc - IOW about $500.

    mine has new cables, was pulled out and cleaned, regreased etc... gone through by 2 shops, still wont lift those last few millimeters without me pushing it up. then it fits and holds in place just fine. its not worth the tinkering, and i've heard if you mess it up, it'll scrape paint on the sunroof exterior. just not worth it. if someone finds a magical cure, please share. otherwise, its one of those fun/maddening little quirks.

    yeah, now I'm on board...

    with you guys too. Sunroofs are a pain. My cars SR operation is on par with the experiences stated above.

    I operated it twice to make certain that it did so correctly, helped it close, then disabled it at the switch!

    Hey, it's better than stripping, welding, grinding, painting, and installing a new headliner!

    Sunroofs are a pain. Those pesky fog lights are shelved too. Hopefully I can still use the switch for some cool driving lights. Shawn.

    Shawn,

    We'll see about that SR staying disconnected in AZ. My cockpit is on average 5-10 degrees cooler with the SR open. All the heat from the car goes up and out. Probably not a problem in Alaska, even in the summer. AZ is another story alltogether.

    The Viper Gren looks sooooo good. You need to put some full sets of pics up on it with the details (or did I miss it while I was a way sulking and sorting out my car?).

    BTW, that background doesn't look like Arizona??? Looks like Bay Area (guess?). Give me a shout and let meknow how the move is going.
