Thread: Sunroof help needed

  1. #11

    another story alltogether...

Yep! Didn't stay disconnected for long. The desert heat is brutal on this poor Alaskan.

OK, so now I am a convert...sunroofs aren't so bad. The good news is that now it operates properly. Must have been the new MSD that I put in the car. Of course, now the tach bounces a bit.

Chris, that pic is one of the PO's. It was taken in Orinda, were my car lived since 1970. I will post some new ones real soon.

Dredging up a very old thread to see if anyone can help with my sunroof issue. Same as these guys, just won't close the last few mm.

How time passes. After his post that started this thread, I met Peter, who has since passed away.

But as for the sunroof, I suggest this is one of those things worth taking the time to learn. It's all about adjustment. If the cables somehow went out of adjustment, the procedure to fix it is a bit fiddly but I'm sure it's documented here. First order of business is to pop the upholstery panel loose and slide it back to expose the 'trucks' where the cables attach at either side of the panel. One of the causes of problems with these sunroofs is a misguided attempt to lubricate the parts. If you find the cables have been lubricated, you'll want to drop the motor and transmission (of the sunroof) and extract the cables for cleaning. You'll have to clean the channels as well. Anyway, I'm sure this is well documented elsewhere on the site. I don't seem to have the best of luck with search here, so if you need a reference to info on another site, let me know. But Google finds everything.

Sad to hear that Peter is no longer w us. I will do a google search, but when I searched here I did not find a lot of details. In an attempt to "fix" my roof I too used spray lube to help.

My alignment is perfect. I just need a new motor, or get the old one rebuilt. Anyone know who rebuilds these sunroof motors?
