    Question 70 S Wheel Options

    New guy here.

Can someone help settle a(n) discussion (argument)?
What were the wheel options available on a 1970 S?
IS there a source can I go to to document it.

    Thanks!

The standard wheel was the 6 X 15 Fuchs for the entire model range. An option was the 5.5 X 14 Fuchs or 5.5 X 15 steel wheels or 5.5 X 15 cast Mg Mahle wheels. This is from Peter Morgan's book the Original Porsche.

    Thanks!

When were 7's introduced? I'm assuming they were available for racing applications earlier than on street cars. Were they available for any of the early S model years?

The correct rims for you 70S are "deep" 6 x 15s. 7s were fitted to the rear of the 73 RS, optionally at the front with 8s at the rear. Never on an S. There was another 7" x 15 Fuchs, the 7R, fitted to the 67 911R

The part # for 'deep' 6" wheels that should be on your car is 901.361.012.06

Didn't someone sell a car in the classifieds here a few months ago that was a special order with rear flares and larger wheels? If I remember everything was per Kardex. To find anything other than 6x15's would be very unusual I would think.

911R wheels were available by special order later than 68......just had to know who to ask...and have a part number.

I've had 911R's with varying date stamps mostly from 1970.

    7" Wheels

Someone asked about a car that changed hands not too long ago with original 7" wheels. It's a '73 S with factory flares and factory 7" wheels which were ordered with the car (plus a rear "Porsche" script delete). I bought the car from Nick Roveda who lived in the Bay Area and brought it to Bend, Oregon.

I'm going to drive it to the Emory Campout next week. Looks like there will be a lot more 911's there than in the past.

    Cheers,
    John Audette

The deep six and 7R look the same from the outside

The difference is at the back
