    Exclamation Question ... Randy Wells

    Hey Randy,

How many miles do you get from your rear S-03's ?

You turned me on to the best street tire I've even been on ... They have been great ... until they weren't

Went on TRE Dave's Solvang Stomp Sat. and all of a sudden realized I couldn't go into the turns as deep as I could the last time I was out... I was hang'n on!!! ... Checked the pressures at a gas stop and they built to the mid 40's so I bled them off to about 36 and that seemed to help a little.

They do indeed look worn... however not THAT worn...

    The fronts still seem OK...

    My records show 9700 miles

    What-cha-think bud ?

    Re: Question ... Randy Wells

Chuck, I think they just got too hot. 34/36 psi should be fine. I have not worn mine out yet (down to 1/4 to 1/2 tread). However, I am unsure of the mileage so far - probably about 10 autocrosses and 5,000 street miles.

I have not found them to fall away quickly, but they are a relatively soft street compound and will wear accordingly - pretty easy to flat spot. I have found they are really best suited as a high performance dual dry/wet tire. For your climate, there may be a better choice, but I'm not sure what to recommend in the sizes you require. By the way (not that it would ever be a problem for you in So. Cal.), but SO3s are terrible in the snow - they pack up really bad!

    Thanks buddy,

Will look into it a little further...

And BTW ... the only time we 'pack up badly' down here is when we pack our boots on top on our shirts ...

Wish you could transport yourself at will to sunny SoCal...

    Cheers,

I know they are noisy and R compound tires, but AO32Rs work very well on the street and the track (keep hot pressures under 30!). I've used the 205/50 and 225/50-15s hard compound for three seasons now - they last forever and are faster than the SO3s. I do know however that you do not care for that short front sidewall.

I would love to have an early 911 tucked away near the Long Beach Airport and fly down several times a year! What a hoot that would be.

    My tire luck

    Hi Chuck & Randy,

I've had really good luck with the Dunlop SP 8000. Very predictable and pretty good wear, 15k on the rear and 20-25k on front. I run 32 psi in front and 34 psi in the rear. Hope this helps.

    All the best!

    Hey Rog,

I tried looking up your SP-8000 on the Tire Rack page and couldn't find them...

    Tires

I have the EXACT same set up as Chuck on my RS and ABSOLUTELY LOVE THEM! Of course, the ONLY time they see 'wet' is when the driveway gets washed down. I ALSO have the Dunlaps tha Rog in referring to on my '72, but I prefer the S-03's; however, that MAY have MORE to do with the larger rims, lowered ride, tweaked suspension etc on the RS vs the '72 then the tires themselves. But I LOVE the Bridgestones.

I know from previous sets of these on other cars however, that as Randy says, they ARE soft; and are NOT known for super long life...

    hope this helps!

Hi guyz...I have been running the Dunlop SP8000's on the 'rooster since 97 and I love 'em. I called Gloria at work and she said that she has always gotten my SP8000' from tire rack, h'ver last year when she got my present set, she was advised that they will be getting harder and harder to find, I just informed her that Chuck couldn't find them at TR'S site and she was surprised to hear that.

So she gave me a name and number of her "other tire guy" who handles her "hard-to-find" tire rqsts, she said if anyone can find a set this guy can....hope this helps....
