The Gold-Plated Porsche

I just finished reading a great new book by Stephan Wilkinson, The Gold-Plated Porsche. It just came out and is available on Amazon.

Wilkinson is a former Car and Driver editor and an accomplished pilot and aircraft restorer, etc. He bought a 911SC fright pig and decided to restore it himself. It isn't a DIY how-to but an entertaining trip through the restoration process with many digressions into Wilkinson's experiences as a pilot, magazine editor, merchant seaman, etc.

I don't often recommend books, but this one is worth the time. I think anybody who subscribes to this BB would enjoy it.

I'm about halfway through it. Very entertaining so far. I'm not sure how the chapter detailing how he smuggled drugs by plane and truck for a time fits in but it does make interesting reading.

I just finished the book. You can knock it out in a couple of evenings as it is only a bit more than 200 pages. To be honest, while entertaining, the book never really delves into any of the topics Stephan chooses to talk about. I wish I had waited a month or so until it landed on the discount table at the bookstore for $3.95 instead of the $20 I paid.

I just finished it on an extended plane trip (10 hours with four sub 3 year olds within 10 feet ). I found it to be a great diversion and fun read. I wonder which message boards he was/is using?
