    Tach conversion for MSD ignition

I am in the process of changing over my ignition on the rally car to a MSD arrangment. I would like to avoid having to use 2x tach adapter modules that MSD sells. Apparently it is possible to have the guts of my original 1970 tach modified to accept the MSD signal?? Anyone had this done at Palo Speedo or Hollywood??

Thanks for the info, launch is 2 weeks and counting to fire the 'ole girl up.

    Jim

    Jim,

North Hollywood Speedometer (818.761.5136) can modify your tach to accept the signal you provide to the tach. When I converted my '71 S to an MSD-6AL ignition system, I used a '73 E tach on which NHS modified the signal board to accept the 12 v peak-to-peak signal off the points ('67 S distributor). The MSD's tach output port is also a 12V pulse, but check your install instructions. I got the impression they were able to modify the input board to suit your needs - you just have to tell them what the input is.

At the same time, for an additional charge, they silk-screened the S redline. Good workmanship and turnaround was about 4 weeks.

BTW - nice motor and workmanship on your car.

Wouldn't this depend on the type of distributor you have?

Porsche has used points, and various "new-fangled" things after that.

Also, it would probably depend on the year of the tachometer(?)

    Anybody know for sure?
