    Red Oil Filters

This may be a stupid question . . . but are these still available . . and is there a story behind them? Met a bloke the other day (concours guy) and he said he'd been looking for one for ages.

The Red Purolator PC260 filters have not been available for several years(I believe that they were actually made by Mahle). Only the black Mahle OC54 is currently available.
*there is a US made PC260(white) which is not the same as the old Red PC260 or tthe Mahle labled filters. Don't use the US version.

Bill nailed it. I have one of the red "Purolator" filters sitting on my garage shelf. Strictly a visual inspection, but IMHO they are identical to the Mahle OC54 except for color. Mahle made 'em, purolator put their paint on 'em...some sort of weird licensing arrangement back in the day...
