    rust repair

I see you have two cars there ,with a question on what to do with one.
If the rear deck is good on it cut it out and weld it in .

Also Nick Moss , in the UK may be able to help you find the piece too

Here is a pic of my rear deck and how I fixed it

I think the TÜV is more concerned with lack of rust than they would be with some proper welding, even for H registration...

Winnie ,I also had the same problem with the rear deck on my 72t coupe. As I was looking for donor cars I found that the panel on the targa is a different size as the coupe. (it was a 71 targa) I think it has to do with the different glass. Can anyone else confirm or comment? Measure carefully!

I had exactly the same poblem with an ex-California 70E. I was lucky to find a near pefect matching parcel shelf at a Porsche autojumble, they are rare pieces (obviously). I would have thought that in Germany it would be easy enough to find a crashed shell with that part intact.

    Winnie,
I had the same problem with my 72T coupe, and I use a 73T targa Rear deck .And as You can see in the link I was able to make it work prefect. Take a look , maybe 71 and 72 are not the same, but had no trouble with the 73.

    Hi all out there,
thx for the try of help. The last week i was searching for the peaces i need, but i wasn't successful. All the german dealers and specialists dont have something i need. But i have an possible offer to buy a whole body of a 70th targa... but this body is nearly rustfree so i dont think it is really a good donor, ists a body for building a new targa...

hmmm, and targa sheet metal in this area isn't same than Coupe??? I was looking exactly and i think it must be the same... maybe the hatrack-sheets direct at the rear-window arn't the same, but this i dont have to replace.

It is clear, that a 71-modell is different in the area of the backseats, because the 901-transmission needs fewer room an the 915 of a 72 modell. But this sheets can easily be widened by using a hammer..

I am nearly sure, that i can use the sheets of a 2,7 or SC too... they look all the same...

ok, this week i will search again, but if i dont find a possibilty i have really put it from my targa... i am in hurry because i build a house from september an before i have to com to the point, where i can put it to my varnisher for repainting, so i can let it alone without bad conscience for the next 6 months, when i need all my free time for my house (certainly with a barn on my ground where i can care for my babies )

    best regards
    Winnie
1972 T targa vipergreen in very bad condition (what should i do with it?)

1978 SC Targa in good condition and a lil bit more hp's than the original 180 (al lil bit to new for me, but a great driver)
