Thread: Early headlamp ID

    Early headlamp ID

I recently bought a 66 911 restoration project. It came with 2 original headlamps and 2 new boxed replacement headlamps that the PO had bought many years ago. The originals have clear lenses

The replacements are part number 901.631.101.01 and have fluted lenses. Are these still available? If so how much are they?

I haven't been able to find the fluted, however they are very similar to the 356 Hella fluted (slight variance in pattern), and those I believe you should be able to find in the UK, though I don't have a part number, yes, they will fit.... Perhaps the local 356 club can help you out.

    Regards,
    Eric

    Thanks Eric

The question is really: what are the fliuted ones worth, as I want to fit the original clear lensed lamps, so the "new" fluted ones will be for sale.

Price would be according to the cost of a set of H-4's, with a set of replacement lenses,....my opinion. I have done a set like that for one of my 67S's, and it looks very nicely European period correct.

I bought my lenses a few years ago from a friend who had a stack of them for sale......I think it was about $50. And a new set of H-4's including their lenses is about $250 (or so....).

So, you figure it out, but that's the ballpark in my opinion.

They are RHD (odd since they came from the USA)

    Eric

They are quite different to H4 lenses. They are more "laid back"

    Nick,
I have what appear to be the same lenses on my 70S. Unfortunatly one of mine took a rock on a recent road trip. Please let me know when you decide to sell.

    Nick,

I am aware that the current H-4's have a shelf at the top of the lense....my comment was in relation to pricing them if you were to get what you have right now (h-4's and euro early lenses)......unless you are telling me that you have lenses only....

Dave, those lenses belong on an pre 68 car.....unless you really like the look!

    regards,
    Eric

Dave, the lenses are RHD, so I guess are no use to you.
